During my summe holidays in 2016 we visited Sicily. That's the big volcano island in South Italy. On this beautiful island, you have a lot of different things to see. There are greek temples in the south and west, crystal clear water on the various costs, plantations with Orange trees, Lemon trees and Olive trees and interesting cities like Catania and Palermo.
Palermo is the capitol of the island. It is an old town with a big history. In Palermo, we could visit the cathedral and climb onto the roofs. Here you have an fascinating view over the city and the landscape. But the most famous and interesting place in Sicily is the volcano Aetna! It's is still active and can erupt at any time. You drive in your car until the Tourist information at the hight oh 1900 m (feet), then you use the cable car to the top (2500 m). Here it looks like on the moon. Grey rocks and lava fields everywhere. Only a few lilt flowers gan grow here. You can walk to the some small craters or take a guided tour to the main crater. North of Sicily, there are seven other amazing islands - the Aeolian islands. Every island is different, but they are all volcano islands. The most famous is Stromboli. This is one of the most active volcanos on the world. We could see some small lava eruptions on the "Fire wall". It was a strange but great feeling to stand on these grounds. I learned a lot about history, geography and geology during this great trip. |
